Monsanto

Number One Enemy of Humanity

Wake up you dumb fucks in India and specially in Andhra, stop using their GE seeds. Short term you'll make money but the consequences of looking at the present will hamper your future, it's just not worth it.

P.S: Will ellaborate on this after my end terms are done

damn

Gonna miss both Black Friday & Cyber monday this year, black friday for obvious reasons and have this stupid end term quiz on monday so there goes my cyber monday.

Also that explains the fact as to why there haven't been any posts recently, two words; end terms.

So....

Found it so funny and we can easily Indianize it, just the last thing has to be changed to something specific to religion/region/caste and if all three work, even the better.

Roger Ebert acknowledges my comment

It's not a great comment/opinion but what the heck!

I know it's juvenile but he is someone who I've always looked up to, not only for his reviews but even his op-ed pieces. And he giving a reply is a big deal for me.

Tendlya Speaks

Wouldn’t like to start thinking of 2011 in 2008.

Have a hunch that he will play for sure in 2011 World cup. Just hope he goes out on a winning note unlike Lara.

Sachin

Is officailly the GOD.

Come to mamma

Google Is Taking Questions.

Just the thing to make the lives of lazy people like me easier, God how much I hate typing stuff. On a side note doesn't the scenario played out in Wall-E look even the more ominous now.

Danny Boyle

Slumdog Millionaire, is getting rave reviews from everyone, am happy that Danny is getting his due. Have been watching his movies from a long time and was waiting for his follow up to the brilliant Trainspotting.

At a level am even happy that a movie set in India, is getting a positive buzz for all the right reasons. Can't wait to catch this cinema in theaters or on the intrawebs, depending on whichever happens first.

P.S: Roger Ebert gave a **** rating.

Lachi about Gangs

His own man

So long gangs, for the memories and never-say-die attitude of yours.

It was really great on the part of Dhoni to let gangs captain one last time.

Interesting times ahead for Indian Cricket team.

Well...

Spielberg and Smith plot Oldboy remake.

What or where is the need to remake this movie?

Another sign that both of them are completely exhausted of ideas and may well be the end of their hold at BO.

Lost for words

It's almost like the author has written about my life. Can we really freeze time? If possible now is the time to do it, can't imagine what it would be like when Sachin finally calls it a day.

LMAO

There's a whole book about this, what I would do to get a hold of it.

Very Very Special Laxman

Nothing calms you like Laxman.

Enuf said. Period.

RIP Michael Crichton

Another literary giant is lost.

One of the reasons why I've developed an interest in science is because of his books. He along with Robin Cook gave some semblance to science fiction writing. His books were easy to read but that didn't mean he took liberties with facts, almost all his books were meticulosly researched and presented to the readers.

He is one of the few people who was succesful at print and visual media. ER created by him is by far the best medical dramas.

I'll end the post with the statement that his family issued "Through his books, Michael Crichton served as an inspiration to students of all ages, challenged scientists in many fields, and illuminated the mysteries of the world in a way we could all understand" That pretty much sums up his works.

Obama

Can he match the actions, now that he has won the presidential election, with his rhetoric? It'll be interesting to see how this goes, which ever way it goes, am sure that it'll be better than 8 years of Dubya's rule.

Nepotism?

M Vijay called up as cover for Gambhir. Jeez man, you have Jaffer, Aakash Chopra & Dinesh Karthik but no, you go for such a left field choice. Can't help but think that it is because of the chief selector and this guy being from the same state even though he has had a great season this year. Whatever! For India's sake I hope he succeeds if he makes his debut in the fourth test.

KMA

People like this are exactly the reason why America is going downhill.

Jumbo Retires

Anil Kumble announces retirement.

It was always on the cards but didn't expect him to retire in this way, maybe at the end of England series, yes. Whatever a great performer and someone who has won more matches for India than any other present or past cricketer.

Thank you.

For a novel that is supposed to be a portrait of the ‘real’ India, The White Tiger comes across as curiously inauthentic. Is it a novel from one more outsider, presenting cynical anthropologies to an audience that is not Indian?

Exactly what I felt when I read Kiran Desai's 'The inheritance of loss' & Arundati Roy's 'The God of small things.' Atleast there are people out there calling out these fraudsters who think they are some sort of crusaders against the oppressive ways of one brown man over the other, forgetting what a white man has done and was doing till a few decades back.

America Don't SCREW UP!!

Final nail in the Coffin?

No One In Tech Can Defend McCain. With 3 days to go, looks like all is lost for the old man. His campaign run would be a basket case in future, on how not to run a presidential election campaign for sure.

TDK script

Searched for it all over the place, finally found it. Will read it and then blog about what changes they made while shooting the movie. Probably this is the first time I'll be reading a script after having watched the movie, kudos to the security in the sets of TDK that one didn't surface on the intranets before the movie released or maybe I was too lazy to search. whatever can't wait to read it proly will do it by next weekend.

P.S: I know that the harcover was out long time back but people who know me well, will vouch for fact that, the whole concept of time is obsolete for me.

Andhra Pradesh Formation day.

Thanks to Potti Sriramulu for making this possible, if only there were more people like him today.

As a formation day gift centre grants classical langugage status to telugu.
I don't know what good this status is going to do, maybe increased funding for researchers? or mostly it's just a titular thing which has no real utility except for bragging rights. Whatever I'm happy at some corner that after Sanskrit and Tamil you've Telugu and Kannada joining them in classical langugages club.

P.S: Maybe from next year onwards we will be celebrating a seperate Telangana formation day, Hyderabad formation day & Rayalaseema formation day so this year it's even the more important that we take some time out and celebrate this day.

Peeved

Really if the death of 48 people is not a big enough news for the MSM in India, then what is? Bloody buggers you've one person gunned down in Bombay and keep running the same news for days together but something happens in Northeastern part of India, not a peep about it. I guess coverage would only be given to incidents that take place in cities or depends on volume based interest. Seriously we and our priorities.

Update: 66 people killed and 470 Injured.

Finally!!!

One good reason to buy TOI, with which I agree.

Unfortunately, even Laxman’s presence wasn’t enough for me to continue with my daily ritual of passing the paper onto the raddi-wallah after that one brief moment of homage. For a while, I continued to take it because I was rearing kittens — it was absorbent and useful for little misunderstandings during the house-breaking phase. Once the cats became civilised, I stepped aside from that value-chain.

No cats, and still you read TOI, then you need to increase that dosage lest you become completely insane.

Illustrations done by Shridhar of Eenadu then daylight next comes You Said It of R K Laxman.

P.S: People Down Under get to have all the fun. Now need to find out if this event is covered live on some network?

P.P.S: 2008 Batiat Finalists and their entries. FYI, Barton Hinkle won it this year. Maybe within 3-4 years I'll be shortlisted and 5 years down the line I will be a winner. That's the whole plan.

END of LEGACY

Time to move on, at the very outset let me thank you for being with me for the last 4 years, be it at times of boredom or at times of me engaging someone socially. You have comforted me when I was lonely and made my experience of being entertained better.

In return all I did was over work you but still you answered to every demand I made and went ahead doing them without even a small bit of complaint. Only now do I realize how big a part you played in my life. There has been such a huge void in my life for the last couple of days that I've no words to explain that sense of loss, feel so powerless at the moment. Feel like some one is pulling me or pushing me into an abyss with no return.

For others you might just be a materialistic thing with a serial number: CND4070FDZ but for me you are the closest thing that ever understood me completely and behaved accordingly. A replacement which can perform the functions you did will be found but it'll not be as good as you for sure. Thanks for the service you've provided me for the last four years my friend, time for you to rest easy. You've earned it.

Alvida/Adieu/So long buddy.

Business as usual

Another animal on the verge of extinction.

What can you expect when you have idiots like Sri^3 Ravi Shankar giving their takes on global warming like this ;

During an evening satsangh, there were some planted questions put to Ravi Shankar. Still, his responses were pedestrian at best. One of the questions was about the new burning topic of global warming and climate change and what he (Ravi Shankar) thought about them.

“At first, he ridiculed those who are worried about such things and proceeded to give the example of the Y2K phenomenon. Ravi Shankar dwelt on how foolishly people worried about Y2K, about places exploding, about the world coming to an end, etc and how nothing of the kind took place. He was suggesting that Y2K was not a problem and so also global warming. Little did he take into consideration the elaborate precautions taken by the world to prepare for Y2K and how India became the world capital for IT and outsourcing as a result.

Guys got a great sense of humor don't you think?

And this idiot has been campaigning heavily for the Nobel peace prize for the past 3-4 years.

Fuck spirituality shit and get real people, because whether you believe in it or not, Global warming is for real and it'll change a lot of stuff we take for granted. Now, is this change going to be devastating for us or not is altogether a different question. No one wants to venture into unknown. As the saying goes be prepared for the worst. A glitch in the matrix is never good for the present, for future it maybe or maybe not.

lol

As soon as the topic list was circulated, i quickly scanned the topics and the very first topic on the sheet of paper was about "Who am I" and as soon as I saw that, it got ne thinking as to who really I am and that's not the first time either, but the difference being this time I was determined to come up with a proper answer. But came up with so many answers that rather then answering that simple question, i was left with more questions than answers. At one point I thought I was like Howard Roark, the perfect man but again if I were him, am forgoing my individualism, originality and not recognizing my creativity, which makes me an antithesis of him. I am what I am and no matter how much I try to identity myself with some other living, imaginary or dead person, it still won't answer the question of who I am. While I was doing this, I couldn't help but draw a parallel with the Douglas Adam's series The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, where they try to find out the answer to the ultimate question of Life, the Universe, and Everything. So to answer this ultimate question they specially build a computer called deep thought, and it takes Deep Thought 7½ million years to compute and check the answer, which turns out to be 42. Unfortunately, The Ultimate Question itself is unknown, suggesting that it is more important to ask the right questions than to seek definite answers. So like the reoccurring question of " who is John galt" that keeps popping up constantly in Ayn rand's Atlas shrugged this question of " who I am" will keep haunting me till an opportune moment presents itself and the real me emerges, till then it's best to leave the question unanswered and frankly I myself don't know "who I am"

That's the outline of the speech I prepared for my public speaking exercise.

Sheesh....

T.N. MPs to quit if Centre fails to ensure ceasefire in Sri Lanka.

Let them resign, it'll be a good riddance. Whatever is happening in Sri Lanka is the internal matter of that country. On one hand you say that LTTE are freedom fighters while you paint the Kashmiri separatist groups as terrorists.

Logic Isn't their Forte

Women, whosoever, labelled as a ‘witch’ by the villagers has to pick a silver coin from a tank filled with boiling oil, with both her hands. If her hands are burnt, her witchhood is confirmed, otherwise she is declared innocent.

To this day people believing in superstitions like witch craft, black magic etc etc is one thing but the process which they use to arrive at it is even the more stupid. Everyone from that village can be given this years Darwin award for Excellence for their shear idiocy.

Reality bites

Abhi-shake things that his Drona is better made than Hrithik's krrish but still can't understand why it bombed at BO. Maybe Abhi-shake it's got something to do with you not being in the same league as Hrithik, you think otherwise then may Amar Singh save you.

Body of lies

Body of Lies is an adult thriller with such a high narrative density that even a brief trip to the restroom may result in key plot points being lost. The film is the antithesis of a slick, superficial feature like Eagle Eye. It both demands and rewards thought.

@#$^& Man I gotta wait another week to watch this movie in India. Caprio's Career is finally back on track. Russell Crowe can't do anything wrong and when it's a Ridley Scott movie, even the better.

P.S: D.J Caruso take a cue and stop fucking up Hitchcock's work and come up with something original, ya I know criticizing is easy but as is coming up with something original and someone has to do it, so why not that be you and prove your critics wrong.

Chiru promises free power to ryots

Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi on Friday promised 24-hour free power supply to farmers, at least in backward districts, if his party comes to power.

Gee that's next to impossible, if you go by the prevailing power scenario in the state. Suppose his party is voted to power, what is he going to do? Just like any other political party go back on his promise. Instead why not assure them that Power will be supplied for free or given at some subsidy for 12-15 hours with proper wattage. Am sure most of the farmers would be happy to pay for their electricity than for getting their burnt motors (happens a lot due to fluctuation in the voltage supplied) repaired. Being a new political outfit and having some sensible people around in the party, thought at least these guys won't resort to these kind of cheap populist schemes. Which ultimately either help in development of the backward districts or empower people over there.

Hilarious Read

How Indians would have saved Lehman Brothers.

One of the funniest stuff I've read in a long time.

Friday, October 10, 2008

Sarah Louise Heath Palin

SAT scores don't lie. Dumber by 17 points compared to the national mean. And what's with all that dropping out from colleges? Did BA in communications but when asked can't even name one newspaper she reads regularly, has the gall to say that she reads "all of them". Palin saga keeps getting murky by the day.

TDP's Volte face on Telangana

Is nothing but an opportunist election gimmick. Won't be surprised if TDP along with the grand alliance of TRS & the left parties are voted back into the power, they take the same Congress & TRS way out of the situation, like the last time around. This makes it next to impossible for Chiranjeevi's Praja Rajyam to make some impact in Telangana unless they come up with some populist scheme. Congress has everything to lose with the formation of this unholy coalition but then again funny things happen in politics, one can't count your chickens before they hatch.

P.S: CBN termed this shift from their party's core agenda as historic necessity, who is he kidding?

Ganguly to retire

'Just one last thing, lads'

A fighter he was, a fighter he is till the end. Last time an Indian player went out in a dignified manner was way back when Sunil Gavaskar retired.

I have been one of his harshest critics and hate him to the core but at some level that hatred is born out of respect I have for his never-say-die attitude.

For me three things stand out in his career, that century in Brisbane against Australia in 2003-04 series and that in your face impromptu celebration on the balcony of Lord's after India won the Natwest trophy. The last, who can forget the way he announced himself onto the cricketing arena with back-to-back centuries in England, in 96 which to me looks like just yesterday.

If Sachin is the God of cricket then Ganguly is the God of the Off-side for me. The cover drives or the way he treats spinners by stepping out are something which I'll miss and will always cherish those memories along with Sachin's straight drive or Rahul Dravid's forward defence or Laxman's flick on the on-side through mid-wicket.

Thanks for the memories Dada. Hope you have a great farewell series and really do hope that you end on a winning note.

No Guns

Mouths Sanjay Dutt when offered one in the movie, Kidnap. Really Sanju baba did I hear it right? Wait that's not it, he then goes on to say that only two kinds of people in the society carry guns, one the police and the other being criminals. Hearing that from his mouth was a bit rich and also ironic. The question is will he ever do his time in Jail or not? Sanjay maybe you can give an answer to that question in your next movie.

P.S: Will post the review in the next post.

Can I Eat My Cake too?

You vote for the bill, take credit for it then attack your opponent as being on the fence and the very next moment you ask the president to veto it? Does this guy suffer from MPD or what??

Religious

With George Carlin no more, Bill Maher has his hands full taking on the religious nut jobs and what better way than to make a movie about their stupid beliefs. Can't wait to watch it.

P.S: Some gems from Bill Maher

CALLER: "Hi. Well, my question is, the Lord spoke to me approximately three years ago, and if the Lord spoke to you [Maher], I was wondering if you'd become a believer."
MAHER: "No, I'd check into Bellevue, which is what you should do..."
You [a Scientologist], like all religious people, have a neurological disorder. And the only reason why people think it's sane is because so many other people believe the same thing. It's insanity by consensus.

Get ready

For a bloodbath in the stock exchanges around the world today.

Well this is just a minor setback for the proponents of this bill and the congress may ultimately pass the bill but this defeat in the house of Representatives gives you an insight into what the majority of people think regarding this ridiculous idea of bailing out the wall street firms with tax payers money, will they do the same thing on a personal level?

Let the markets take their own corrective measures, and I know it'll be a long drawn process and a pretty painful process too but hey you gotta do the right thing no?

Finally!!

Gilli is made the captain of the Deccan Chargers.

Will do a post later on this here.

Yabba dabba doo

I am idiot for watching Flintstones on the idiot box when I could have seen it live, which is more fun with more belly cramps assured every time our real time betty opens her mouth.

Seriously these religious nut jobs do much more damage to the US than the economic meltdown that's going on there. One thing for sure, McCain camp sure does know how to take the heat away from the old Dinosaur which is by itself a great achievement.

Eagle Eye

Jerry Shaw (LaBeouf) and Rachel Holloman (Monaghan) are two strangers thrown together by a mysterious phone call from a woman they have never met. Threatening their lives and family, she pushes Jerry and Rachel into a series of increasingly dangerous situation, using the technology of everyday life to track and control their every move. As the situation escalates, these two ordinary people become the country's most wanted fugitives, who must work together to discover what is really happening -– and more importantly, why.

North By Northwest anyone?

Jeez last year it was Disturbia (Rear window) and now this, Dreamworks stop it already. Hitchcock was a genius, one of a kind and there won't be another director like him. Speilberg, you are better than this and never expected such kind of stuff from projects you were involved with, but again you have been pushing Shia labeouf down our throats, still don't get what you see in that lame ass piece of shit and he ain't a Jew either. I don't even have to try hard to hate that guy, guess one less movie to watch.

People who are considering of watching this movie will be better off seeing this one.
A good movie which gets you thinking if one should give it back or suffer silently or confront. I am for paying them back with interest included.

If what Rahul Gandhi has for lunch is a news worthy item then so is mine to the readers of this blog.

I had roti, dal, aloo and chawal in my dinner today.

Don't judge what you don't understand.

P.S: Well written and which even a lay man like me can understand. http://http://www.time.com/time/business/article/0,8599,1842123-2,00.html

A much better explanation but a tad bit technical.

Edit: Ah!! the irony, news is that American government is going into regulation of the two left over Investment banks, so is this the last nail in the coffin of free market economy as we know or should say are preached my Asserica?

To do, or not to do

Just read the news that the Feds bailed out the ailing AIG by lending 85 billion dollars. Before this, it did the same for Bears sterns, the question that's been lingering at the back of my mind is how justified is the government in doing this with the tax payers money? and that too for companies who have made bad investment calls, doesn't it set a bad precedent of sorts where the banks hereafter can go into risky transactions where if it pays of, well and good but if it doesn't won't they look at the fed to come bail them out.

A much more relevant question in regards with India is do they continue with deregulaization of banking & Insurance sectors or after seeing the US experience re-evaluate their policies?

Sunday, September 14, 2008

WTF!!!

They have power cut in my area everyday from 2 am to 3:30 am. Want to meet the official who did this scheduling, even by government standards this is so lame on so many fronts. Heard that in the rest of UP there is a load shedding for 8-12 hours, be it rural or urban so compared to that what we have in Noida is not a big deal but the whole idea is defeated by having it in the middle of the night.

Righteous Kill - Quick Review

The last time we saw Al Pacino and Roberto Di Nero acting in the same movie, they were pitted against each other but in this movie they play two detectives who are partners. Even though they are both on the same side, this movie has a scene reminiscent of the famous confrontation scene which takes place between them in Heat when both of them cross paths in the bar. It's worth watching the movie for that last five minutes, where you find out why these two actors are the best in the business. Other than that one scene, the rest of the movie is rather insipid and the movie is best watched on DVD, that too on a rainy day or when you have nothing better to do.

Tail piece : It's not much of a thriller really as from the beginning you sort of know what the ending would be. Both of them look really old to be playing Police detectives and should say that the director or more importantly the writer wasted such talented actors.

A New Hope

Blogging & me. Been there done that is so Cliche, So let me put it this way all I do is start something, do it for a while and lose enthusiasm or move onto better/worse ( depends on where you are coming from) stuff. Now then, now then, the question is will this attempt at blogging be any different? Frankly I don't know, want to think that this will be a regular thing but knowing me can't take it for granted only time will tell where this blog goes.

Mostly I'm going to blog about movies & sports, maybe once in a while throw in some current affairs and some tidbits about my immediate environment. I got to warn you though, am highly opinionated, arrogant and come from the left side of the political spectrum but on the positive side can be funny, uplifting and use my common sense which eludes most of humanity.

Sixteen hours of the day that is like 95% of the time that I'm awake you'll find me thinking about a whole range of stuff right from the theory of relativity or how to become a billionaire without putting in much effort to much more simple stuff like what to have for my lunch or what template should I use for my blog, that being the reason for naming the blog "hmmm"- A constant state of contemplating something or the other.

Phew now that I've done with explaining why blog, about what and reason behind the name of this blog, now a little about myself, why create another blog and the significance behind the title of this post. Will be leaving to Noida tomorrow and start life afresh, wherein become more responsible and start owning up for my actions. That is my new hope and the idea behind creating this blog, start anew. My life parallels that of Luke Skywalker, atleast in the aspect of leaving your home, getting together with like minded people, and saving the world from the evil cluthes of Oil & energy companies, thus the title of my first.

Welcome on board.
